Snickers Peanut Butter Squared

Snickers Peanut Butter Squared wrapper

This is the one time (and probably the only time) that my Candy Tenet Number 1 will be proven wrong. And I have never been so happy about being wrong!!  In the Snickers Peanut Butter Squared, Mars has produced a candy bar that, in my opinion, is better than a Snickers Bar. Yes, you read that correctly. The ever-popular, always-at-the-top-of-the-all-time-best-candy-list candy bar has been made better. The new Snickers Peanut Butter Squared can best be described as the hypothetical love child of a Snickers Bar and a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Well, that's my explanation.  Here's what Mars says on the wrapper: "Filled with Peanut Butter, Peanuts, Caramel and Nougat and Covered in Milk Chocolate".  (I like my description better, but it is likely not appropriate for the wrapper.)

Snickers Peanut Butter Squared size

The first thing you notice about this bar is that well, it's not a bar. Instead of the normal rectangular bar you are familiar with, Mars has created two squares. This candy weighs in at 1.78oz which is slightly less than a 2.07oz Snickers bar. My wife says the squares are good for sharing.  I told her that is CRAZY TALK, because NO ONE would share this candy bar. YES, IT IS THAT GOOD!

Snickers Peanut Butter Squared cross section

Why it is so good? You can see in the cross section picture above that this is basically a Snickers. It has everything you know and love from a Snickers Bar. Chocolate, caramel, nougat, and peanuts are all there. It appears there is less nougat, less caramel and fewer peanuts, but they are still there.  BUT, the peanuts are now suspended in a layer of peanut butter instead of the caramel.  The peanut butter is a super sweet, slightly gritty (but intense) peanut taste. I'm not joking when I say it tastes like the peanut butter from a Reese's, because it really does. I really, really enjoyed this candy bar. I love super sweet candy, I love Snickers (which is a perfect candy bar in my opinion), I love peanut butter and Reese's.  Put all of that together and I think this is one of the greatest changes to a classic candy bar I've ever had.

Here's the downside...these are not available until December 2010. I know, I know, I almost didn't review these because of that, but they are so good I could not resist. My co-workers were angry with me because I brought these in to sample and then dropped that bomb on them.  They were all so defeated. So, I'll apologize to all of you too. Sorry, you have to wait a few months for this one to hit the store shelves. However, when it does, you'll want to try it out. I imagine this will be a big hit, right in time for the holidays.

There is no way in hell I would share mine with co-workers.

heh, thanks for the comment Rodzilla. I have a ton of candy right now, having just returned from the Sweets and Snacks EXPO so I'm trying to get rid of it.

These look great! I recently read a recipe in Bon Appetit that added a huge pat of butter to the inside of a burger! I'm glad to see something that doesn't rely on so much fat for flavor, haha.
