Hershey's Kisses Caramel Apple

Hershey's Kisses Caramel Apple Packaging

In the last few years, Hershey's has expanded the Kisses line to include many seasonal and limited edition Hershey's Kisses Chocolates. This Fall/Halloween season, Hershey's released Caramel Apple, Pumpkin Spice and Candy Corn Hershey's Kisses. I reviewed the Pumpkin Spice Hershey's Kiss and did not like it very much so I wasn't  really looking forward to this Caramel Apple flavor. I do like the beautiful fall colors used on the packaging and the zebra stripes on the foil wrapped kisses.

When I opened the bag I was pleasantly surprised with the aroma from inside the bag. There was a very nice caramel apple smell that made me think of the real thing. While I wasn't expecting a true caramel apple flavor, like the real caramel apples in the photo below, the caramel in this Hershey's Kiss tasted really, really close to the real thing. Which makes me wonder, how do they create these flavors and make them so darn close to the original?!

This is how someone that reviews candy for fun eats his fruit

We have a small apple orchard on our acreage and we often make caramel apples for fun at our house in the fall. I have to admit that I was amazed at how close this caramel-like substance tasted to a crisp green apple. At first you taste the caramel, which isn't a real caramel, but tastes pretty good anyway. Then you taste the tart green apple flavor which is also pretty good. The last thing you taste, in this chocolate Hershey's Kiss, is the chocolate. The caramel and green apple flavors are just that tasty and overpowering compared to the chocolate flavor. I do think that injecting caramel apple flavoring using a Hershey's Kiss chocolate mold as a vehicle, is a great way to make such a candy. I didn't find this candy to be messy, except for when I was cutting it open to take a picture of the inside.  Although it is good, this lack of messiness is the only advantage this candy has over a real caramel apple--but it is a nice twist on an original.  I didn't love it, but you should try it while it is in the stores for this short soon enough the candy cane flavored Kisses will be on the shelf for Christmas.

Nice photo.

I really wish they offered kisses in smaller bags, there are tons to try..but I don't want to be burdened with the entire package. They should do a seasonal sampler or something, with these, candy corn, and pumpkin varieties.

I completely agree with you. It's tough to spend $2.69 on something then find out you do not like it. A "Fall" Sampler Pack would be perfect. They could still offer the normal bags if you liked an individual flavor. Or...why not make a small bag with 10 of these for the checkout lane? I know it would be easier on my pocket book for reviews. Thanks for commenting!

A sampler bag is a good idea. I myself am stuck with a whole bag of pumpkin spice kisses that I kind of hate. (who knew?) least the wrappers are pretty! I haven't seen the caramel apple ones in stores but if I do I might bite the bullet and try them since they sound interesting.

Elizabeth, if anyone could come up with a recipe to use un-liked Hershey's Pumpkin Spice Kisses, it has to be you! Thanks for the comment.
