Dove Peanut Butter Eggs

Dove Peanut Butter Egg

This is the second bag of Dove eggs we have purchased. I have also reviewed the Dove Coconut Creme Eggs prior to this review. I purchased the two bags together in a 2/$6 sale at CVS pharmacy. The normal price on this candy is a little expensive, but I did not have to wait long for a nice sale on this candy. There were lots of flavors to choose from...but since peanut butter and chocolate is one of the best combinations in the world in my opinion, I decided to give Dove's go at this amazing combination a try.

The peanut butter is smooth and creamy and is a perfect match for the silky smooth easy melting Dove chocolate it's wrapped in. It blends well and melted together so smoothly. The peanut butter wasn't sugary sweet, although it was sweet enough and slightly salty.  I think the mixture of sugar to peanuts was just about perfect in this filling, although the peanuts were somewhat muted by the sugar. It might have been because there was so little filling inside this candy.  I was looking for more peanut, less sugar, which is odd to say since this wasn't that sugary to begin with.  It's a nice flavor overall, but I still prefer the in-your-face-sugary-sweet-grainy filling in a Reese's.

This candy is like the elegant "goes to fancy parties" version of a Reese's and there's nothing wrong with that. I call it "elegant" for many reasons.  One reason is the smooth Dove chocolate used and the other reason is the fancy foil wrapper. I think there's plenty of room under the peanut butter and chocolate tent. It's a big party and every candy manufacturer is invited, as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't mind seeing ten more candies with a peanut butter and chocolate combination because they'll all taste slightly different. The chocolate is what sets this candy apart from the Hershey-Reese's juggernaut, and anyone that has tried Dove chocolate before knows what I'm talking about here. What I'd like to see is a mash-up between Dove chocolate and the Reese's peanut butter filling because that would be amazing. I think the outer chocolate of a Reese's is the downside to that candy and the peanut butter inside is the downside to this candy. I doubt that would happen as Hershey and Mars are the major competitors in the U.S. market....but a candy lover can dream!!!

Dove Peanut Butter Egg

This Dove candy has been around for awhile in the Dove Promise square size. They changed the shape for Easter and it is a great way to sell more product. Everyone loves egg-shaped candy at Easter time! I'm not sure I'd part with this candy to put in my children's Easter baskets though.  (I don't give them Reese's peanut butter eggs either, call me a horrible parent, but you know I'm the one hiding in the closet with chocolate on my hands and face eating the kid's peanut butter and chocolate candy.)  This is Easter candy for grown ups, don't we deserve a basket too?
