Gimbal's Sour Bunnies

Gimbal's Sour Bunnies

This was one of the easiest reviews I've ever done. I'll start by saying, if you see these on the shelf at your local store, BUY THEM! We really, really liked this candy. The Gimbal name was well known to me, but I hadn't tried a gummy candy made by them yet. They make great jelly beans and I especially love their Lava Balls. I wasn't that crazy about the Gimbal's Cherry Lovers Fruit Chews I reviewed but I love gummy candy and was excited to try these.

Here's what makes this candy so good. First off, the sour part of this candy isn't all that sour. It's not a Toxic Waste sour or a shocking sour.  It's a very-nice-make-you-pucker-a-bit-but-fades-quickly sour. That's something I enjoy because I'm older and don't want my mouth to feel like I just ate 14 tons of malic acid (that's the stuff added to make things EXTREMELY sour). I did find that the sourness increased as you neared the bottom of the bag. Mostly because the malic acid was on the outside of this candy and it settled to the candy on the bottom. That's not a bad thing, but something to keep in mind. Also, the sour was inconsistent between the pieces. I like that a lot. One piece would be very sour, the next only slightly sour, it really kept you guessing.

This candy was nice and chewy. It didn't stick to my teeth like some gummy candy does. It started off nice and chewy, a bit firm, after awhile this candy formed a fantastic chewy substance that I can only compare to chewing gum. I can't stress enough just how good the consistency of the gummy was in this bag of candy. The only thing I didn't like was that the different colors did not vary in taste. They all tasted the same, a sour start with a nice sugary/corn syrup candy gummy finish. This is a simple candy, but one that was done right. I'm not sure if I'm just extra excited about this candy because it is the first I've reviewed for Easter (my favorite candy holiday) or if this candy was just that good. I think this candy was just that good.
